ABOUT THE ROLE

The Scale Operator/General Labourer (SOGL) responsibilities are to accurately and efficiently operate the scales, fulfill the duties of attendant at the public bins, household hazardous waste and electronics drop-off areas, and conduct general labourer functions. This position is required to provide high quality customer service while working as a team with other facility staff. The SOGL will work within most areas of the waste site, including but not limited to outdoor locations as well as scale house, landfill transfer station, household hazardous waste and electronics drop off areas, cardboard tipping floor, and public waste bin drop off area.. Review the full job description here

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess a valid NS driver’s license. Class 3 driver’s license would be an asset
  • Previous experience with operating a weigh scale is a strong asset
  • Previous experience with cash handling and manual labour is an asset
  • Demonstrated good interpersonal skills and customer service skills
  • Effective verbal communication skills
  • To effectively communicate with customers and other staff
  • Work effectively in a team-oriented collaborative environment
  • Interact with the public and co-workers in a positive manner

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • $20.14 - $27.70/ hr 
  • 40 hours per week
  • Work during weekdays and Saturdays (on a rotation). Additional hours may be required to cover sick days and vacation time.
  • Some overtime may be required (i.e. after 5:00 pm weekdays, Saturdays, Holidays)
  • Willing to work in areas with exposure to waste and unpleasant odors.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Some duties will require working alone.
  • Will be required to occasionally lift objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Standing for extended periods of time
  • Repetitive lifting and bending motions.
  • Will be required to pick up litter on-site occasionally.
