ABOUT THE ROLE
The General Labourer (GL) responsibilities are to efficiently fulfill the duties of attendant at the public bins, household hazardous waste and electronics drop-off areas, and conduct general labour functions at the site. This position is required to provide high quality customer service while working as a team with other facility staff. The GL will work within most areas of the waste site, including but not limited to outdoor locations as well as landfill transfer station, household hazardous waste and electronics drop off areas, cardboard tipping floor, and public
waste bin drop off area. The GL will always observe safe work procedures.
IS THIS YOU?
You are happiest working outside and you're not afraid to get your hands dirty. You are familiar with basic grounds maintenance tools (lawn mowers, whipper snipper, etc) and you enjoy collaborating with other team members to deliver top quality customer service.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Certification and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent (is an asset, but not required)
- Previous experience with manual labour is a strong asset.
- Valid Driver's License is an asset
- First-aid and CPR (required, but employer will train)
- WHMIS (required, but employer will train)

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Full-time (40+ hours on a rotating schedule).
- Work during weekdays, occasional Saturdays. Additional hours may be required to cover sick days and vacation time
- Willing to work in areas with exposure to waste and unpleasant odors
- Some overtime may be required (i.e. after 5:00pm weekdays, Saturdays, Holidays)
- Wear required personal protective equipment at all times
- Some duties will require working alone
- Will be required to occasionally lift objects up to 25 lbs.
- Standing for extended periods of time
- Repetitive lifting and bending motions
- Will be required to pick up litter on-site occasionally
- Must supply own steel-toed safety boots
OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS
- Requires a satisfactory criminal record check.
- Wage: $17.70/hr plus 4% vacation pay
- 40 hrs per week. 8:00AM - 4:30PM Monday- Friday, with rotating Saturday shifts
- Approximately 8 weeks, ending August 30, 2025
