ABOUT THE ROLE
The Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO) responsibilities are to safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment at the Waste Site. The position is required to provide high quality customer service while working as a team with other facility staff. As a skilled and competent HEO with a high level of expertise the role will support all areas of the Waste Site ensuring incoming and outgoing materials are processed and loaded in a safe and timely manner, working with team members ensuring regular maintenance to site is completed and other tasks as assigned by Waste Site management.

QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must possess a valid NS driver’s license
- Class 3 driver’s license is an asset
- Formal Heavy Equipment Operator training and certifications of the assigned equipment are required; may be provided on the job.
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certification (provided on job)
- First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification (provided on job)
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Regular hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (40 hours per week), plus Saturdays and holidays on an ongoing regular basis as scheduled
- Additional hours will be required periodically depending upon work demands
- Sitting for extended periods of time
- Dexterity of hands, fingers, and feet to operate equipment controls
- Repetitive motions of the hands, fingers, and feet
- Will be required to clean equipment
- Will be required to occasionally lift heavy objects (50 pounds)
OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS
- Requires access to a reliable motor vehicle and a valid Nova Scotia Class 5 Driver’s license.
- Requires a satisfactory criminal record check.
- Hourly Rate: $24.02 to $33.02 (Group 4).
- Class 3 driver’s license is an asset
