The Municipal Joint Services Board - Lunenburg Region (MJSB), was formed in 2013 through a cost sharing agreement.  Located in the heart of Nova Scotia’s south shore, MJSB’s purpose is to improve services for the residents of the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg and the Towns of Bridgewater and Mahone Bay.  MJSB’s shared services include waste, information technology, human resources, occupational health and safety and procurement.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Outreach/Compliance Officer’s (OCO) primary role is to ensure effective delivery of education, outreach and compliance programs with respect to Nova Scotia Solid Waste-Resource Management Regulations. This includes curbside waste collection inspection and waste audit at the transfer stations. The OCO is responsible for investigation and clean-up of illegal dumpsites within the partner regions. They are also responsible for enforcement of waste management related bylaws.  

The Education and Outreach department is part of the administrative team of the MJSB. The Outreach/Compliance Officer forms part of the support team in the MJSB office.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Grade 12 or higher with three years’ experience in public relations and administration preferred.
  • Must possess excellent grammar skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Publisher, Excel and Outlook are required.
  • Ability to work effectively with the public is essential.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills are required.
  • Ability to compile accurate written records detailing observations and actions taken.
  • Ability to work flexible hours (working before or after regular hours or working weekend outreach events)

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Regular hours are Monday to Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm (40 hours per week)
  • Additional hours will be required periodically depending upon work demands, including Saturdays & Holidays.
  • May need to periodically attend meetings/events outside of regular work hours.
  • Working outdoors, year-round
  • On-site, office, waste site as well as a significant amount of time working in other locations off-site
  • Occasionally lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs)

OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS

  • Requires access to a reliable motor vehicle and a valid Nova Scotia Class 5 Driver’s license.
  • Requires a satisfactory criminal record check.
  • Annual Salary:  $49,512 to $68,079 (Group 4).
  • Special Constable status would be considered an asset (provided on job)
